Gary Sanchez’s Insane Month of August Is Among the Best This Decade
Making a good first impression is something many people aim for in various areas of life. MLB rookies will now have to chase the ultimate first impression made by New York Yankees catcher, Gary Sanchez, this past summer.
Yankees fans knew Sanchez was expected to be the future for this franchise behind the plate, but had to do quite a bit of waiting before it actually happened. Sanchez accumulated two plate appearances in 2015, followed by another four in May of this past season before getting any kind of consistent opportunity.
But then, it happened – general manager Brian Cashman executed New York’s first sell-off at the non-waiver trade deadline this century, which paved the way for Sanchez to finally get everyday at-bats at the big league level.
Did he take advantage of it? I’d say so.
He immediately endeared himself to Yankee fans eagerly awaiting his arrival, rewarding their patience by providing a historic month of offense – especially considering he entered it with just six big-league plate appearances to his name.
Do the Yankees need a new pitching coach?
This year the Yankees pitching isn’t performing the way it should, which is quite an understatement.
The new pitchers that were acquired last year, Luis Severino and Nathan Eovaldi, are performing worse than they did last year.
Eovaldi’s numbers are not much worse but still he declined from 4.20 to 4.76. Severino had a solid ERA of 2.89 last year as he kept his opponents to a batting average of .229. This year, Severino’s ERA has skyrocketed to a whopping 6.79. His opponents are hitting a lot better with him on the mound: .291.

Yankees did right thing by throwing the towel
By trading away their most valuable assets, the Yankees have officially given up on the season.
Until the trade deadline the situation wasn’t quite as hopeless as many thought it would be. In fact, trailing by seven games at this part of the season, gives a team still a chance to reach the play offs, even though it is through the second wild card spot. But after being swept by the lowly Rays, it eventually became clear that the chance to reach the playoffs wasn’t a realistic one for the Yankees. The pitching did not live up to the expectations as did most of the hitting.
Yankees Switch Roles at Trade Deadline, Help Fuel Potentially Historic World Series Matchup
Whether you’re a fan of the New York Yankees or not, a couple things are universally known about the organization: they’ve won a lot of World Series titles and normally do whatever it takes to win. The Bronx Bombers could have an impact on the Fall Classic again come October, but not because they’re participating in it.
Actually deciding to be a seller at the MLB trade deadline wasn’t the shocking part. Given their average play, it made sense for general manager Brian Cashman to trade Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller (among others) when their perceived value was high. However, helping the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians – two teams suffering through very long championship droughts – possibly get over the hump was a rather interesting twist.
It’s been a while since either of these organizations reached the pinnacle of the sport, but they each have reason to believe this is the year it comes to an end.

Daily Matchups for 7/9/2016
Pitcher
STUDS
Max Scherzer- Easily the top pitcher on the day. Mets haven’t been hitting well of late. Should get plenty of strikeouts and a shot at the W.
Carlos Martinez- Brewers have combined to hit 13-56 of Martinez, and are one of the worst offenses vs. RHP’s this season.
MID RANGE
Danny Salazar- Right now the Yankees offense is a hot mess. Only down fall here is they don’t strike out much, which limits his upside. More of a GPP play here.
Lance McCullers- McCullers has great strikeout numbers but at 4 walks per 9, it runs that pitch count up in a hurry that being said, a matchup with Oakland could offer some nice fantasy value.
VALUE
Rick Porcello- Only there Rays really have good match ups vs. the Boston righty, but the Rays as a whole have been horrible this season vs. righties. Porcello is in play in cash and GPP for me today.

MLB Trade Rumors: Andrew Miller To The Texas Rangers
Let me preface this article by saying that this deal will only be made if the New York Yankees are out of the playoff race near the trade deadline. As of right now, the New York Yankees are 22-24, and 6.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox. Considering how competitive the American League East is, there is a good chance the Yankees will be out of contention near the trade deadline, which means they will be sellers in the trade market.
The Yankees’ number one asset to move will be one of their three elite relief pitchers, Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, or Aroldis Chapman. Of the three, Andrew Miller is the most likely to be dealt. Miller is under contract until 2018 (signed a four-year/$36 million contract in 2015), which is what makes him so valuable to a contending team. So far in 2016, Miller has appeared in 19 games, with a 2-0 record, 0.96 ERA, 33 strikeouts, and one walk in 18.2 innings pitched.

Nine Innings/Questions with DoubleG Sports on the Yankees
If you like what you read below, check out more from Charlie Mule at DoubleGSports.com!
This is another in the series of articles where I ask fellow bloggers from the Baseball Bloggers Alliance (BBA) 9 innings worth of questions about their team. The goal is to do this for as many teams as possible (all 30 would be ideal) a few times a season. This one is a pre-All Star edition, then a post-All Star edition, another down the stretch (towards the end of the season) and then either a playoffs edition or off season edition or both!
So, without further ado …
- How are the Yankee’s offseason acquisitions working out so far? Any concerns?
The Yankees acquired Starlin Castro, Aroldis Chapman and Aaron Hicks.

A Jay Bruce Trade To The New York Yankees Makes Sense
As of right now, the New York Yankees are really struggling. They are currently in last place in the American League East with a record of 13-19. A large part of this extreme decline is because the Yankees are struggling to score runs. They are currently ranked as the 24th overall team in Major League Baseball when it comes to run production. This is exactly why the potential addition of Jay Bruce could be a huge spark plug to the Yankees lineup.
The Yankees outfield is currently filled with Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, and a struggling Aaron Hicks. Jay Bruce could take over for Hicks and provide a lot of power potential for the Yankees lineup. Over Bruce’s 9-year career, he is averaging 30 home runs per season. His left-handed power swing could be extremely dangerous in Yankee Stadium.
