Major League Baseball All-Star Voting: Who Is Worthy?

It is that time of the year where fans get to choose who will make the American League and National League rosters for the all-star game. The game will be held on July 12th at Petco Park, the home stadium of the San Diego Padres. The voting for this event will end on June 30th. While there is a lot of time left to vote, it is a good time to see who is deserving of a trip to the all-star game. Below you can see my votes heading into the fourth week of the season. M’s Get Blanked Tuesday: 22 Teams Left In 2016 MLB Shutout Survivor + MLB Runs Scoring Survivor Update

Equally as poor, and in a 5 game losing themselves, the Mariners were also blanked last night 8 - 0. Seattle is now 0 - 5 at home, and can't buy any hits on home turf. 7 runs in 5 games is not the way to start your campaign at Safeco Field. This is not foreign territory for the Mariners, who routinely have the worst batting numbers at home every year. Playing games versus AL West counterparts the A's and Rangers - they have posted just an .486 OPS while at home

A quick start by Robinson Cano has quickly faded into a Batting Average of .182.  Dae-Hoo Lee and Adam Lind have collected just 3 hits in the eight total contests thus far.

Kyle Seager and Ketel Marte have provided little punch from the Left side of the infield.  I expect Seager to turn himself around, but I was one to always question why the franchise didn’t go outside the squad to bring in a new veteran shortstop.

Both clubs were eliminated from MLB Shutout Survivor, and must get their lineups back in order, or they will also fall way back in MLB Runs Scoring Survivor too, having picked off all of the low run scoring totals.

The Padres were blanked for a 4th time in 8 games, and still only have 3 different variations on their season.  This is tied with Tampa and Detroit for the fewest marks off the scoresheet, but they have played one more game than the Rays and 2 more contests than the Tigers, so they are ranked 30th in this competition.

Chicago continues to lead the movement to all 11 runs scored scenarios, with having plated a different amount of guys in every single game thus far.  All they need to complete this competition are run totals of 0, 1, 3 and 8.

Oakland, Texas, Arizona and Colorado have 6 out of the 11 run totals, but they all need to knock off some of the higher totals – unlike the Cubs. Read the rest of this entry

We have an outstanding amount of baseball fans that are doing audio and video presentations for the game of baseball that are not even being paid for it.

I would put the content of these shows up against a lot of the paid professionals of the MLB – or any other entity that possesses the wherewithal to be able to do that.

If you want to keep scrolling down, all of the information listed below is all of the shows for the week from all, or maybe you have a favorite, then you can just click on one of the highlighted shows.

In this opening week we had Sully Baseball talk a lot about the Pirates, D’Backs, Cubs and the Cardinals in opening week.  He keyed on where Tim Lincecum may end up, and the opening start for Zack Greinke.  Like everyone else, he also submitted his yearly predictions.

Sully also delivered an emotional podcast where he implores everyone to love their extended family more on April 2, 2016 – because you don’t know when you may lose some one.

The “BBA” Live  guys talked about the opening week, and a lot about what the NL East will look like this year.

The Hall Of Very Good Interviewed Kato Kaelin.

The Jays from the Couch guys continued to kill it on their coverage of Canada’s only team.

The Pirates Breakdown was happy to see their club begin 3 – 0 after sweeping the Cards after giving their predictions.

Seamheads (Gateway To Heaven) wondered if anyone was going to make it through the week for St. Louis in light of the Tommy Pham injury.

MLB This Week went through their season picks – and also talked about some of the technology of the game as a fan.

Doubleheader Master Schedule For MLB Parks In 2016 By Ground

Wrigley Field is perfect to double up with games at Miller Park all year. The classic move is the Friday 1:20 game, then head up to Miller Park by ground. You can even catch an Amtrak Train from Union Station that leaves at 5:09 weekdays, and arrives in downtown Milwaukee at 6;35. You avoid the horrible traffic that way.

As an expert in Major League Doubleheaders (I attended 47 of them in 2015, including one Triple Header, and have gone to 75 overall in the last 7 years), I have to say there is fewer opportunities to see 2 games in one day this year than last years schedule.

In 2015 alone, I started off seeing 37 games in April despite their only being 25 days of game action – as part of my 224 total games seen live.

Some of the previous years I really went all out with crazy flight doubleheader scenarios.. These are not really pragmatic unless you are chasing a world record.

Most of the criteria is to be able to see most (if not all) of both games of the twin bill.

There are 2 New York Doubleheaders on June 30th and Aug 27, and 1 all Chicago Doubleheader move on Sept 15, 2016.

Oakland and San Francisco represent the 3rd closest home parks to the New York and Chicago Parks.  There are 2 opportunities to see the BAY area 2 fer.

On May 21st, the Yankees are in Oakland at 1:05, and the Giants host the Cubs at 5:05 on the ESPN SUNDAY NIGHT GAME.  With a quick run to the BART station after the 1st game, you could conceivably make both contests for the duration.

On June 15th, a more friendly timed doubleheader goes 12:45 at AT & T Park, with a 7:05 start for o.co coliseum.

Several of the doubleheaders with big drives like STL/KC, CIN/STL and CLE/CIN are all feasible to see most of the action  for each, and a quick game may result in every pitch seen. Read the rest of this entry

For the last several years my buddy Josh Robbins and I have come up with ways to beat our individual world records for ballpark chasing.

My record is all 30 MLB Parks (every pitch) in just 23 Calendar Days.  I accomplished this feat in 2012.  You can read about that trip here.  After scouring the MLB Schedule for 2016, there is not even an attempt to try for the record this season.

Unless it changes, it will be another campaign I will sip (Gas Monkey Cinnamon Tequilla) as the world record holder for another year.

The Padres Should Definitely Not Pursue Yoenis Cespedes: But The Angels Should

Yoenis Cespedes led all LF for HRs with 35 on the campaign in 2015. He picked a contract year for his best season to date out of the 4 years he has been in the Major Leagues. Cespedes hit 17 HRs with the Mets in 2 months, after smacking out just 18 in the first four months with Detroit. Cespedes finished in the top 40 for both leagues in respective big fly's, and was tie for 13th overall with Manny Machado and David Ortiz.

With Yoenis Cespedes still on the open market a lot of speculation is running rampant on which squads should be in the running for his services.

While I am not sure I buy the theory at all, the Padres have been said to be checking in on the big Cuban star.

This type of signing would be a monumental mistake in my view.

I would hope that A.J. Preller would have learned his lesson by acquiring high strikeout, low OBP players that have power that may not translate to their home park in Petco Park. (more…)

San Diego Padres State Of The Union For 2016

It was a disastrous plan from the beginning, and now the 2014 winter is causing the 2015 offseason to play out different. The NL West has also seen the Giants and Diamondbacks beef up their Rosters while San Diego has lost their top 3 Bullpen arms. This squad will have a tough time avoiding 100 Losses in the 2016 season in my view. The saving grace is they can trade every Veteran player they can and start building up the club for 3 - 4 more years down the road.

It certainly is a different feel to the winter of the Padres in the 2015 offseason than it was the 2014 Season.  I never bought into the premise of how A.J. Preller built the team last year.

It was one of the easiest over/under wagers of the year.  It ended in the club losing more games than they did the previous year – despite running a higher payroll.

The franchise loses Justin Upton to Free Agency, and have traded or lost their top 3 Relievers in Craig Kimbrel, Joaquin Benoit and Shawn Kelley.

Preller has also made a few questionable moves in acquiring Jon Jay for one year – and giving up on Jedd Gyorko.  In my view, this is a weird move.

In an Infield that is already lacking power, this latest move furthers the need to bring in more hitters. (more…)
