Pittsburgh Pirates Pitching Prospect, Jameson Taillon, Could Be The Next Big Fantasy Baseball Star

It is just a matter of time before Jameson Taillon finds himself standing on the mound in a Pittsburgh Pirates uniform. For those who aren’t familiar with Taillon, it is time to get familiar. He was drafted in the first round (second overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010.

From 2011 to 2013, he shot up the organization and was on the fast track to a promotion to the big league team. Unfortunately, he was sidelined in 2014 after receiving Tommy John Surgery. Luckily for the Pirates, it looks like Taillon is back to his dominating ways since his recovery.

In 2016, he has thrown 49.1 innings, with a 1.82 ERA, 51 strikeouts, and only 5 walks in Triple-A. He is ready for the big leagues, it is just a matter of finding him a spot in the rotation for him. The Pirates’ rotation is currently filled by Gerrit Cole, Francisco Liriano, Jon Niese, Jeff Locke, and Juan Nicasio.

MLB Fantasy Daily (DFS) Picks For DraftKings – 5/17/16

Cabrera has absolutely destroyed Starter Phil Hughes in his career, - with 6 Bolts in just 43 AB. He and the Tigers take their road act to Target Field again tonight. Last evening they scored 10 runs for the 1st time all season. i would not be surprised to see them turn the feat again tonight. The Tigers are also not overpriced yet as they have struggled most of the year. They are the top stacking option lineup all night.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For Draft Kings 4/29/16

P- Juan Nicasio (vs. Cincinnati Reds): $5,800. To me, this seems like a no brainer. First of all, Nicasio’s price point helps the flexibility of the rest of the lineup. Second, he is facing the 25th ranked offense in Major League Baseball at his home park. Third, he has a great strikeout rate, which will lead to great points on Friday. In 20 innings this year, he has a 4.50 ERA, 21 strikeouts, and 11 walks. In 2016, he has started against the Cardinals, Tigers, and Diamondbacks, whom all have great offenses. This match-up seems to be in Nicosio’s favor and it could be a great game for daily fantasy on Friday.

P- Aaron Sanchez (vs. Tampa Bay Rays): $7,100. Sanchez had a rough game last game, but prior to that, he had only give up 3 earned runs in 3 starts. He will be starting against the Tampa Bay Rays, whom he has already dominated this year. The Rays are ranked as the 29th overall offense in Major League Baseball, which shows how terrible they really are when it comes to hitting. In Sanchez’s 2016 debut, he threw 7 innings against the Rays, giving up 1 earned run, 5 hits, 0 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Sanchez will be hungry after his rough start last week, so he should put up a huge game on Friday.

Pittsburgh Pirates Pitcher, Juan Nicasio, Is The Fantasy Baseball Sleeper Everyone Is Looking For

Nicasio

No one has ever questioned Juan Nicasio‘s ability to pitch, but after posting a 5.03 ERA through four seasons in Colorado, the outlook was not bright. The Dodgers decided to take a chance on him in 2015 and it paid huge dividends. As a reliever in the Dodgers organization, he threw in 53 games, totaling 58.1 innings, 65 strikeouts, 32 walks, 3.86 ERA, and a 2.83 FIP. These numbers are impressive, but his low FIP suggests that his ERA should be even better than it was. The Pittsburgh Pirates took notice of Nicasio’s successful 2015 campaign and decided to sign him to a one year/$3 million contract for 2016. Two Rights, then a Left: Breaking down the back of the Pirates Rotation

The Pittsburgh Pirates have now declared an open competition between three pitchers for the last two spots in their starting rotation. What direction will the team take?

The Pittsburgh Pirates are two weeks away from Opening Day vs. the St. Louis Cardinals and currently the most intriguing story of Spring Training is the emergence of Juan Nicasio as a starting pitching option.

Nicasio has been dynamic so far this spring, throwing 15 innings, allowing zero runs on ten hits and striking out 24.

Pirates Breakdown has debated whether Nicasio has earned a spot in the rotation and today, general manager Neal Huntington laid bare how the team feels about Nicasio’s progress.

The other two options for the backend of the rotation are, of course, Ryan Vogelsong and Jeff Locke.

As it stands, based purely on Spring Training performance Nicasio and Vogelsong probably have the advantage over Jeff Locke, but come Opening Day will Locke be out of the rotation in favor of Nicasio? Or will Locke once again be penciled in as the club’s fifth starter? We still have two weeks of exhibition games to sort everything out, but lets take a look at how each of these pitchers stack up against each other.

Going purely on one Spring Training can be very risky for a ball club. Just because a player has looked dominant in spring, doesn’t mean they will necessarily translate that success to the regular season.

MLB Power Rankings New Year Of 2016

Perhaps the Back to the Future Prediction was off by just one year. The Cubs , who are immensely loaded with young offensive superstars added another to the mix with the Jason Heyward signing. Add that to a revamped Bullpen, strong Starters signed last year in Jon Lester and Jason Hammel, coupled with John Lackey this year, and this team is the clear cut #1 ranked team. Oh yeah..They even have depth to make another trade should they need to.

(1) Chicago Cubs: Big additions of Jason Heyward, Ben Zobrist and John Lackey.  Tonnes of young superstars only ging to get better.

(2) NY Mets:  Starting Pitching best in the Majors.  Offensive depth better in offseason.  Need David Wright to stay healthy.  NL East easiest bottom 3 teams in the bigs.

(3) Kansas City Royals:  Easiest Division in the Majors.  Back to Back AL Pennants and defending World Series Champs.  Look for some more mid year deals. (more…)
