2016 Detroit Tigers First Year Player Draft Results

Manning, MattThe 2016 First Year Player Draft wrapped up over the weekend with GM Al Avila following the Dave Dombrowski draft playbook pretty closely, by selecting power arms early and often.  The one noticeable difference was with Avila willing to shy away from taking a power arm out of college with the 1st round pick and went with Matt Manning, out of Sheldon High school in Sacramento, CA.

Detroit went on  to select 4 more pitchers with their next 4 picks and selected 19 overall, including a few local kids.  It does seem as if they have an interest in any player name Dalton however.

The Tigers lost picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds with the signings of Jordan Zimmermannand Justin Upton, but their first round was protected based on how they finished last year in the standings.

Here’s how the draft went (Rd/Pick/Player/School/POS)

About Shaneo42

I am an amateur blogger but avid Detroit Tigers fan which started out around the age of 7 during the 1984 Tiger season. That year catapulted me to love the game and want to write about it as much as possible. I played some high school ball, rode some pine in college and co-created and wrote Pepper Baseball Blog for eight years. It's time for a fresh start for myself, the blog, and our readers hopefully as I write about the Tigers, Baseball, and my hobby Baseball cards. I hope you enjoy!
